The design of this very compact midrange driver was made possible thanks to the exclusive use of the new “W” sandwich membrane with “M” profile coupled, among other things, to the TMD® suspension and the red neodymium motor, the Focal signature. Our ear being particularly sensitive around 4kHz, this 3.5” (8.7 cm) midrange surprises with its extreme softness and striking realism.
SIGNATURE FOCAL
Made in France, 3.5WM is a shallow depth loudspeaker. Thanks to Focal technologies such as the M-profile “W” cone and TMD® (Tuned Mass Damper) suspension, the frequency response is extended (200 Hz – 10 kHz). The purity of the sound signature is unrivalled in the car.

“W” MEMBRANE
Perfectly defined midrange and bass
By developing and manufacturing its own membranes, Focal pushes the limits of innovation in acoustics. The sandwich “W” membrane of the loudspeakers plays an essential role in sound reproduction. It consists of two sheets of glass placed on either side of a central foam body; a sandwich construction that enables us to master the three key parameters of a good loudspeaker: lightness, rigidity and damping. This flagship membrane of Focal know-how perfectly optimizes the frequency response curve, providing low distortion and total listening transparency. Sound is the ultimate in precision.
“M” PROFILE
For ever greater impact
If the material of a membrane is essential, so is its shape. Focal engineers worked on an “M” profile for the glass fibre “W” membrane. This “M” profile is the fruit of many years of research and our expertise in membrane geometries. Produced in a single piece (without a core cover), it achieves, among other things, a significant reduction in harmonic distortion, better sound dispersion and optimal power handling. A major Focal innovation that can be found on many products.
TMD SUSPENSION
Stabilized surround, eliminates vibrations
While our engineers are experts in the development of exclusive diaphragms, they also innovate in all the components that make up the loudspeakers, such as the surround that connects the diaphragm to the frame, the performance of which must be mastered. Introduced in 2015, Tuned Mass Damper (TMD) technology with harmonic damping consists of the addition of finely positioned toroidal weights to stabilize the surround for even greater sonic neutrality. This technology enhances the midrange and the erratic behavior of the surround between 1 kHz and 2 kHz.
